गुणं पृच्छस्व मा रूपं शीलं पृच्छस्व मा कुलम्।
सिद्धिं पृच्छस्व मा विद्यां भोगं पृच्छस्व मा धनम्॥
Transliteration:
guṇaṃ pṛcchasva mā rūpaṃ śīlaṃ pṛcchasva mā kulam।
siddhiṃ pṛcchasva mā vidyāṃ bhogaṃ pṛcchasva mā dhanam॥
Hindi Translation:
अच्छे गुणों के लिए पूछें, सुंदरता के लिए नहीं। अच्छे चरित्र के लिए पूछें, न कि कुल के लिए।
उपलब्धियों के लिए पूछें, न कि पढ़ाई की मात्रा के लिए। संतुष्टि मांगो, धन नहीं।
English Translation:
Ask for good qualities, not for beauty. Ask for good character, and not the family. Ask for achievements, and not the amount of studies. Ask for enjoyment, and not the wealth.
